Kindness

A rub, a pat
Or even just a smile
To be kind to furry friends
You don’t really have to go a mile

They didn’t choose to coexist
But such is this life
The least we can do is value them
And not subject them to the knife

Each creature has a personality
Each creature plays a role
The minute we disrupt the numbers
We bid goodbye to the whole

Of course I know about the food chain
I learned about it in grade five
The real issue kicks in
With the unnatural surge of supply

If evolution had turned the tables
And we were way down on the list
I believe the other beings would be kinder
And wouldn’t rule with such an iron fist
